Mingo Falls

Mingo Falls is located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation just a few miles from the Cherokee Casino. To reach Mingo falls you must hike .4 miles and 159 stairs to the top of the trail which takes you to the base of the falls. There is a bridge that goes over the river from the falls allowing you to get a great view of the falls. The falls itself is 120 feet tall and absolutely stunning. I found the logs and foliage in the foreground of the falls here to be particularly interesting which is great for wide angle photography.  Of course the falls themselves are very intricate and offered some great details for some telephoto shots as well.

Mingo Falls Address & Directions

Mingo Falls is located in the Eastern Cherokee Reservation. From Oconaluftee Visitor Center, drive south (toward Cherokee) on US-441 and take the second left onto Big Cove Road. At the first stop sign turn left and drive 4.5 miles to Mingo Falls Campground, where the trail begins.
