Project Description
Cloudland Canyon is a Georgia state park located at Lookout Mountain. This park is very scenic with amazing views from the top of the canyon. Sitton Gulch Creek cuts through the mountain creating several gorgeous waterfalls. The first falls, Cherokee Falls is easily accessible about .5 miles from the start of the Cloudland Canyon Waterfalls trail. The approach through the trees up to the waterfall reminded me of something out of a fairy tale. From here, you back trace a bit to decend further into the Canyon to the second waterfall Hemlock Falls. Viewing of this waterfall is from a man made platform. From here you can choose to return or make the climb down the 600+ stairs to the bottom of the Canyon to view several more waterfalls. If you visit in winter as we did you have to be especially careful as the stairs were iced up in several locations. While making it to the bottom of the canyon and back up can be challenging there are several stopping points along the way where you can sit and rest.
