Project Description
Amicalola Falls State Park is home to the likewise named Amicalola Falls. Amicalola Falls are the tallest falls in Georgia at 729 feet. The park is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Amicalola Falls offers hiking, trout fishing, geocaching, camping, cabins and more. Amicalola Falls is also home to the 57 room Amicalola Falls Lodge.
At the base of Amicalola Falls is a wonderful water pool where several people were trout fishing. Even here at the base of the falls there are several interesting spots to photograph before you even get started hiking up the trail. There’s many interesting rocks and smaller falls here before you cross the first bridge to start your hike to the top of the trail. Along the way there are endless photo opportunities as the trail follows along the waters edge. This stretch actually ended up being where we spent most of our time photographing. Eventually you will reach a large set of stairs you will need to climb to reach the top of the main falls. There are resting spots along the climb if you need to stop to sit and rest. Once you reach the top there is a grate bridge you can walk across directly in front of the falls.
